How To Display Recent, Random and Popular Posts With Thumbnails
There are many WordPress Plugins available which allows you to display your Blog’s Recent, Random or Popular Articles in the sidebar, but most of them only shows Title of the post and not the Thumbnails. So, decided to write a tutorial to make your sidebar more attractive and dashing. Just follow the simple steps and you are done.
1.Get Plugins
For displaying your Articles in the sidebar with thumbnails in the sidebars, you will require plugins made by Rob Marsh. These plugins (Random Posts, Recent Posts and Popular Posts) are made in such a way that you can use tags available from the number of tags. From the collection of tags available, we can use the particular desired tags.

[download id="38" format="2"]
[download id="39" format="2"]
[download id="40" format="2"]
2. Customizing Your Plugin
When you download the plugin, you will get a ZIP file, first extract the file and then upload it to your blog’s Plugins Directory. Then login to your Dashboard and in the Plugins Tab, Activate the Plguins you have just downloaded. After activating the plugins, you will get a options tab in the Settings panel. Go to the options panel, and then jump to output tab in the Plugin options page.
In the options tab, there is a option of Output Template which allows you to design the output of the Plugin. Just add the following code to the output template option.
<li> <a href="{url}"><img src="{imagesrc}" width="60" height="60" title="" /></a>{link} </li>You can customize the size of the thumbnails by changing the size of width and height in the code. The {imagesrc} tag allows the plugin to take first image from the Post and display as thumbnail. You can use some CSS for designing the thumbnails more. Similarly for Recent Posts, Random Posts and Similiar Posts, add the same code in the output template and you will get the result. After adding the code, just go to widgets area and place the posts widget in the sidebar. If you have another tutorial or code that leads to the same tutorial, then please inform us via comment.
