Geekers - Rufus is an application that you can use to make your flash disk bootable so that it can be used as an operating system installation media, both Windows OS, Linux and so on.


From the past until now, I rarely use installation media in the form of DVDs. I more often use a flash drive as the installation media, because it's simpler and the best solution for those whose laptops aren't equipped with a CD drive or DVD drive, they have problems and can't use them.

How to Use Rufus for Beginners


1. First we need to download the software here.


2. After that, plug the flash drive into your laptop or PC, then open the Rufus application that you downloaded earlier.

3. As you can see in the image below, your flash drive will automatically be detected. Then click on the DVD drive icon as I have indicated the arrow.

4. Select the ISO file you want, then select Open. You can download a collection of operating system ISO files via this link.

5. Automatically the name and file system on your flashdisk will change. You can also rename the flash drive as you wish in the New volume label column. After that select Start.

6. You will get a notification like the image below. This notification contains a warning that all data on your flash drive will be deleted. Therefore, make sure you first back up your important data on the flash drive. Next, select OK.

7. Wait a few minutes for the process of transferring files to the flashdisk. Usually it only takes 10 minutes, depending on the size of the ISO file.

8. If the green progress bar is full and there is READY writing below it, it indicates that your flashdisk has finished booting and is ready to be used as installation media.

9. Restart your computer / laptop then press F2 or Fn + F10 to enter the BIOS menu. After the BIOS display appears, enter the Boot menu.

10. Move the Removable Devices / Flashdisk Name to the top position using the + / – button (this button may be different, depending on the BIOS type).

11. Press F10 to save the settings then select Yes.

12. Press any key to start booting from the flashdisk.
